I'm taking a bunch of recs away from this post, you've definitely made me super interested in Annihilation for example, enough that I might have to bump it up to the top of my reading list. I also feel exactly the same way about Wicked, I read it years ago and it was just... not that much of anything. I adore fantasy politics, but they weren't focused on or developed enough to grip me, just took enough time and attention from everything else that none of the rest got a chance to grip me either.
This year let's both finally to our Temeraire rereads/catch-ups! I believe in us. And oh man, I didn't know you never finished When Women Were Warriors, I can tell you right away without considering it a spoiler: it kept being amazing the whole way through, I can't wait for you to read it! You're welcome for Dungeon Meshi, btw. ;D
