Overall Thoughts:

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? less. i'm trying to not be hard on myself about it; i worked all year and it's been stressful and depressing and anxiety-inducing in equal parts, so i'm not surprised that my output has been less than previous years. but it's still a bit of a disappointment! i'd predicted that i would finish a few of the wips i have going and that. didn't really happen, alas.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? jon/sam/gilly/ygritte, for sure. i don't think i'd ever even contemplated it before, except in passing.

What's your own favourite story of the year? the serpent under't. there are a few things i'd do differently, if i wrote it now, but i like the story a lot.

What's the WIP you really wanted, but didn't get to finish? a bookend to another decalogue, my original fic from 2014. it's just porn, filthy and irredeemable, but i was looking forward to getting it done anyway. also, the fic i had planned for ASOIAF Big Bang! it never really went anywhere but i'd have liked to complete it.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? i entered too many goddamn fic exchanges at the same goddamn time and almost broke under the goddamn pressure. i have learn that i really cannot trust my procrastinating ass to participate responsibly in fic exchanges, haha. even though it's a sure-fire way to get me to write... god. i put myself under so much stress and i always start writing too late. it's terrible. i'm probably not going to participate in any exchanges this year. it'll be for the best!

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year? last year, like the year before, i resolved to not write about white people so much. i sort of succeeded in that? (if you count su characters, all of whom are rock aliens, but none of whom i see as white, 13/20 fics have a non-white character in a lead role.) i want to commit to this again, and take it a step further by trying to write about more black people! and finish some of my damn works in progress before they burn through my soul.

From my past year of writing, what was...

My best story of this year: the serpent under't is something that i'm actually very proud of. the flood has to get a little mention too, just because.

My most popular story of this year: love overgrows a rock. i think it was just one of the first ruby/sapphire fics after 'jailbreak', and i rode that wave like a mf.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: i'd kinda hoped for a bit more love for the flood, just because i have a lot of affection for it myself.

Most fun story to write: kiss therapy! fun, cute and quick. i'll always be a fluff monster at heart. the perfect solution was pretty fun too!

Story with the single sexiest moment: cartography of a fist, probably. :9

Most "holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: eh, i've got nothing that fits this.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: precious coral, kinda. i've always liked jasper, and writing about her and what i think her past could have been like only solidified that, and made me like her more? jasper's not for everyone, and i completely get that, but i like thinking of the things outside what's shown in text that could have made her into the awful pissant beefbaby she is. so yeah, a lot of it might not have made it into the actual fic, but i feel like i understand her and like her more. also, i love both my mad max fics for the way they made me think about the history and lore of the world, and i came away from them both with extension headcanons about all the characters involved.

Longest story: night song. ironically, as i originally wanted to write something short and simple. but coming down to the deadline the words just started pouring out of me. like, there was so much material to work with, and it ultimately became a story that was as much about the vuvalini as it was about furiosa and toast, and it could have been even longer, i know for sure.

Shortest story: varying states. i just wanted to write a quick coda (and have amethyst say the 'four's a party' line, lol) and thankfully i stuck to that.

Hardest story to write: for something that ended up being so short, midnight sun was ridiculously difficult to get off the ground. iron to adamant also gave me a bit of trouble; i got STUCK in one place for so long and i just didn't know how to dig myself out of that hole.

Biggest disappointment: i'm a teensy bit upset about on the way, because i know that given the time and the spoons i could have made it a much longer and much more plotty story. i'm very much satisfied with how it turned out, i'm just heaving a little sigh for What Could Have Been.

Biggest surprise: never die, to some extent. it started out as an old rp thng, and i originally intended to flesh it out into something long and plotty but. i also thought it worked well as just that one scene, and decided at the last minute (10 o'clock on the 31st, lol) to post it as is. also midnight sun. i don't Do vampire AUs, and the story came how from a request on tumblr, which my procrastinating ass normally never gets around to doing. but around that time i just really wanted to write SOMETHING and i decided that this prompt would be it.

Most unintentionally telling story: lol idk. in perfect light? it tells how emotionally wrecked i was from a couple lines by a super minor character, lmao.
